Dogecoin NFT Community to Honor Shiba Inu Dog with Commemorative Statue in Japan

by Melai Briones

The Dogecoin community is making headlines yet again, this time for funding the construction of a bronze statue in Japan to honor Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog that became the face of the infamous Doge internet meme. According to a press release from The Dogecoin Foundation, fans of Kabosu started crowdfunding in early November 2022 and quickly reached their goal of $42,069 within just 72 hours. However, due to the recent cryptocurrency market crash, the plans for the statue were temporarily put on hold.

But now, the statue is ready to be unveiled on November 2, which also happens to be Kabosu’s 18th birthday. It will be located in Sakura Furusato Square, a place where Kabosu and its owner often take walks. The community is excited about this milestone and plans to hold interactive events to celebrate the statue’s unveiling. Attendees will have the opportunity to win certain privileges based on their ownership of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a type of digital asset.

The crowdfunding initiative was spearheaded by PleasrDAO’s tridog, a group of NFT collectors who purchase high-priced NFTs and build communities around them. One of their projects, “Own the Doge,” donates to charities around the world. Tridog expressed their mission to become the online gathering place for the Doge and meme community, and they even have ambitions to place a statue of Kabosu on the moon one day.

Doge, the original Dogecoin, has played a significant role in the world of cryptocurrencies. It was first introduced in 2013 and has since inspired a wave of other popular cryptocurrencies, including Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Floki Inu (FLOKI). One of Doge’s most prominent supporters is Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who has adopted it as his favorite cryptocurrency. Musk often promotes Dogecoin on social media, and his posts have a noticeable impact on its price movements.

Despite its fame and market capitalization, Dogecoin’s co-founders, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, have been critical of the cryptocurrency industry as a whole. Nevertheless, Dogecoin has become the second most recognized cryptocurrency after Bitcoin among the general population.

The construction of the bronze statue in Japan is a testament to the power of community and the influence of internet memes in the realm of cryptocurrencies. It not only commemorates the iconic Doge meme but also acknowledges the impact of Dogecoin on the crypto landscape. As the Dogecoin community continues to grow and expand its reach, it will be fascinating to see what other projects and initiatives they undertake in the future.
